#10 – The Difference between a Net Mineral Acre (NMA) and Net Royalty Acre (NRA)

This episode explains two critical units of measurement that mineral owners need to understand when evaluating their interests and comparing offers from buyers.

Net Mineral Acre (NMA) represents full (100%) mineral interest in one acre of land. It’s calculated by multiplying your gross acreage by your fractional interest in the minerals. For example, if you own a 1/10th interest in a 160-acre tract, you own 16 Net Mineral Acres.

Net Royalty Acre (NRA) represents the mineral royalty interest equivalent to 1/8th (12.5%) royalty in one acre of land. This standardized measurement allows for apples-to-apples comparisons between different properties with varying royalty rates.
