Hi, Matt Sands here, host of the Mineral Rights Podcast. This week I’m doing something different. I’m putting a pause on releasing new content this week in support of those in the black community whose rights have been violated and in support of peaceful protest of the wrongful death of George Floyd.
I usually don’t get into political discussions and I make it a point to try to be unbiased and factual with the content I put out. That said, I believe in certain principles and I felt compelled to act given what is going on in the US right now. Posting a black square and hashtag on social media seemed like an easy out.
I believe that every human being is equal, that life is sacred, and that we should treat others as we would like to be treated. I believe that respect for individual rights is the foundation for a free and prosperous country. I also believe that unnecessary use of force and any fraudulent behavior should be met with rigorous opposition.
I also support our law enforcement and those who limit the use of force to the protection of the rights of individuals to life, liberty, and property, but that government or law enforcement must never be permitted to violate these rights.
I hope that we all can have a meaningful conversation about changes and contributions that we can all make to make our communities a better place to live for everyone, regardless of ethnic background. Because the fact of the matter is that all humans are genetically 99.5% the same.
One place that I think can make a difference is with education. I am on the board of the Beacon Network Schools and see the difference they are making with students from all backgrounds in terms of opportunities and in teaching character traits like kindness and integrity. I believe that all kids should have the right to an equal educational opportunity.
