In this interview, NARO Board Member and Landman (Landwoman), Katy Alven, shares her experiences working in the oil & gas industry and most recently managing the land department of a mineral acquisition company.  We also discuss Katy’s involvement with NARO and how being a NARO member has helped her manage her mineral rights.

About Our Guest

Katy Alven is a landman, mineral owner, and has been active in the oil and gas industry since 2007. She is head of the Land Department at Mekusukey Oil Company, LLC in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She is responsible for Mekusukey’s ongoing mineral acquisition program and management of Mekusukey’s inventory of approximately 110,000 net mineral acres across 26 states. Additionally, in 2016, Katy founded Mustang Minerals, LLC and currently owns and manages approximately 900 net mineral acres across 13 states.

In 2006, Katy graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a BA in English and later obtained an MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond (2012) and a Master of Legal Studies in Energy from Oklahoma City University (2014).

Katy is a Certified Mineral Manager and Registered Professional Landman. She was elected to the Oklahoma NARO Board in 2018 and is the current OK-NARO Secretary. She was elected to the National NARO Board in 2021. In addition to NARO, she is a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen, and Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association.
